Turned 30, loved Hershey & CSS is one of the best bands to see live

A lot has happened since the last time I wrote. Mostly good things at least, but busy nonetheless.

A few weeks ago, I turned the bend and hit 30. I decided not to make a huge production out of it and will always cherish my 20s as a time for large birthday gatherings.

So the week before the big 3-0, we stayed at the Inn at Westwynd Farm up in Hershey,  PA, where I made a ton of new friends, had my first official spa experience, and got tired of chocolate for the first time in my life.

Then the actual weekend of my birthday, I made last minute dinner plans with a group of friends for a restaurant I've been wanting to get to for a while: The Dogwood.

It was a tight squeeze, but the food was pretty good. They also gave me a free glass of wine and the best chocolate mousse I have probably ever had. Topped with a light scoop of whipped cream and a blackberry, it was definitely memorable.

A week later, I was extremely excited to see one of my favorite bands, CSS, at Ramshead Live. Now, I had been to a show there, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The space itself was okay. It reminded me of a cross between the 9:30 Club in DC and what used to be The Nation/Capital Ballroom.

I really didn't like their policy about cameras. Luckily, someone else either didn't know about it or ignored it altogether and captured a few songs.

The vocals and acoustics sounded great, the lighting was perfect, and the price for beer wasn't too terribly bad. But what really made the show was the band themselves. They exerted so much energy and passion; you could tell that they really love performing. Not only that, but they played music from all their albums (they even played Patins, which was extremely awesome since someone from the audience had thankfully requested it), which was a great mix, along with a couple of newbies from their album to be released in a few months.

Between all this and more, I managed to get some wedding planning done, more tips to come, and catch some sort of awful stomach bug and come down with an ear and sinus infection. Feels like more than a handful, but who said turning 30 was going to be easy?
