Not long after I left work to go to a doctor's appointment, a fire broke out on the 400th block of E. Baltimore Street. For those who have cruised down "The Block," you can only imagine the chaos.

Here are some anonymous tales from people living and working in Baltimore as they posted about today's fire on Twitter and Facebook:

"Smoke so thick on The Block it looks like night."

"I got to see the big block fire since I had jury duty today. Thank goodness the judge let us leave early. We could hardly hear testimony over the alarms and police sirens. It was quite impressive."

"Ever since the news found out the fire started in an adult book store, coverage has been awkward/hilarious."

"I just read that Norma Jeans stayed open, girls still on stage, guys still sipping drinks through the whole ordeal...lol"

"Whoa! Just heard "The Block" is on fire. A real fire, not a metaphor for Larry Flint's club. Hope no one was hurt!"

"I work about 2 miles away from the fire and the smell of smoke is so strong people think the fire is in the neighborhood."

"When someone told me The Block was on fire, I thought they were talking about a gonorrhea outbreak, not a real fire"

"now all the updates on my feed are about how the Block is on fire..."

"In the words of Lil' Wayne "the block is hot"

"Crazy scary!"

"Stuck in horrible traffic"

"83N shut down due to a 5 car accident and the block is on fire. Not a good day for Baltimore!"
