From hot-off-the-grill kabobs to freshly filled pita sandwiches, Egyptian Pizza Cafe of Belvedere Square offers an "ancient history of great food" at an affordable price.
Walking into a pleasant aroma of grilled and fried food, my dinner partners and I started out with Baba Ganush ($5.95) and Hummus with roasted garlic ($5.95). The Baba Ganush was served cold, with small chunks of eggplant, spices and roasted garlic properly mixed to a silky, tangy flavor. The Hummus with roasted garlic arrived with dark orange garlic sprinkled on top, which wasn't too mild or overbearing. We dipped heated wedges of fresh pita bread into both.
A bright green, fresh house salad doused in sweet tahina sauce coupled with perfectly seasoned golden curly fries surrounded the overfilled Nature Pita ($7.95) containing crisp, fluffy falafel and fried onions topped with a hummus, garlic twist. The Kefta Kabob's ($11.50) chopped sirloin steak mixed with parsley, broiled onions, mushrooms, and green peppers needed extra seasoning.
The spinach pesto and small chunks of pine nuts added a spicy flare to the 10" L.A. Pizza ($8.95). The 10" New York, New York Pizza's ($8.95), leek with marinated potatoes had a dill pickle taste, overpowering the basil pesto and red peppers. Loaded with shrimp, scallops and crabmeat, the 10" Mixed Seafood Pizza ($9.95) blended sweet and sour with accompanying garlic and chopped dill parsley.
We regretfully had to pass on desserts like Oreo cheese cake, Pyramid hazelnut chocolate mousse, and Baklava because we were too full.
